Time is known to be out of the reach of every man. Morning
comes and night goes. The clock on the wall refuses to stop for us to enjoy a
little and continue later. Time has shown to be smarter than us all, beyond us
and out of our reach.
Louis
MacNeice advised
that:
A watched clock never moves, they
said:
Leave it alone and you'll grow up.
Nor will the sulking holiday train
Start sooner if you stamp your feet.
This
further indicates that time truly waits for no man. However, there are ways to
buy time. There are always ways to make time think it is too slow. This is not
done by looking at it, but by ignoring it. Here are the few things to do to buy
time:
#1 Always believe there is no time
Punctuality
is the politeness of princes
– Anonymous. The truth is whatever you want to do, do it now. The best time to
do anything is a moment ago or now. Anything after now is tantamount to selling
time instead of buying time. Never for once think that you could do it later
because the later may not come.
It is
best done a moment ago, better done now and worse done later. Procrastination
is a time thief. It makes you feel you have all the time and can always do it
later, however, doing it later is a very bad mentality. Would you pick a choice
of succeeding later over now? If you would like to succeed now, then work now.
# 2 Punctuality
Many have grown the spirit of lateness. Don’t be surprised
they will even be late to their own wedding. They have grown the laziness
mentality of a program not starting exactly the time fixed, they therefore
would not go early. Whether a program starts or not at the time fixed, you have
to develop the attitude to get things done at the right time.
You are not living for others, you are living for yourself. It is a bad decision not to cultivate the habit of punctuality. Punctuality helps one to grow the right attitude to life. Therefore, make sure things are done at the right time.

#3 Have a Timetable
It is not necessary you have a written timetable. It can be
written in your heart. This is to ascertain monitoring and proper use of time.
It guides one on things to be done and make sure time management is key. Somerset Morgham says,” I
would sooner read a time-table or a catalogue than nothing at all. They are
much more entertaining than half the novels that are written”.
You therefore need a timetable. One
you can refer to when you don’t know or have what to do. Timetable doesn’t
alone tell you what to do, it also tells you what not to do. So you need to set
up your life just like a system.
#4 Take opportunities
The major
thing that keeps one going in life is to appreciate the things currently
happening in one’s life. Though one might not be at where one should be, but
one is not at where he used to be. And progress is a major stake in the journey
of life. Slow and steady is known to win the race. It’s not about how fast you
are, but how far you have gone. So whatever comes to your life now, make sure
you take it and do it well.
#5 Always do Something
I
have, all my life long, been lying till noon; yet I tell all young men, and
tell them with great sincerity, that nobody who does not rise early will ever
do any good – Samuel Johnson.
Not doing anything is tantamount to killing time. It is a
bad precedence.
In reality, killing time
Is only the name for another of the multifarious ways
By which Time kills us
- Sir Osbert Sitwell
Whenever
you are doing nothing should be the time you resting your head and brain
(Sleeping). Every other time should be used to do something meaningful,
important. If it is not productive, it must be adding knowledge.
And at the
end of these all, you discover you made it at the right time, you become happy
at early age and you must have served your purpose on earth even while young. You get to retire at 40 or 50 and still remain an happy man. According
to Elbert Hubbard, “If you want work well done, select a busy
man: the other kind has no time”.

According to Samuel Johnson, “I hate a fellow whom pride, or cowardice,
or laziness drives into a corner, and who does nothing when he is there but sit
and growl; let him come out as I do, and bark”.
