In the
words of Michael Edwardes on the end of apartheid in South Africa, he said, “People will not readily bear pain unless
there is hope.” This literarily indicates that there is something that can
keep one through pain and still not complain in the midst of it. While the body
wearies, strength is failing, legs be come wobble, zeal is more lost than gained
and there is almost nothing to live for, HOPE
becomes the only reason to hold on to the blade.
I
see before me the statue of a celebrated minister, who said that confidence was
a plant of slow growth. But I believe, however gradual may be the growth of confidence,
that of credit requires still more time to arrive at maturity – Benjamin Disraeli.
Benjamin shed more light to the
reward of staying longer. It may be gradual and slow, but the race will
definitely end. The eyes and mind should be more fixed on the goal, reward than
the length of the journey.
What
if I died trying
Well, it
is possible to die trying, but what is the reward for not trying. Even if you
didn’t try, you will still die. Death is
the greatest evil, because it cuts off hope - William Hazlitt. Death has been thought to be the only end to
hope, however, death also fears a man
with hope. A man without hope tends to die more time before the real death
comes. What he fears has killed him already. He is living the dream of others
and many see a hopeless man as a stepping stone to greatness. He is no more
part of those at the top of the ladder and displacing such man is nothing
different from breaking a biscuit.
Dream
The
first qualification for a physician is hopefulness – James Little
Being a
man who serves the purpose of hope, the first thing you must have is that hope.
You are dawned with a responsibility of more than a million destinies, you
definitely need something stronger than the ones you lift their burden, and
that is hope. You remember “The destiny
of a great kingdom rests upon the shoulder of a young man, his name is MERLIN”.
For those that could remember this and watched it, imagine if Merlin had no
hope, who would have looked up to him.

Likewise,
so many dreams look up to your dream, many destinies depend on yours, you are a
bridge for some to cross to their greatness, you are the means at which so many
will find their way through, however, you need a stronger faith and a higher
hope than they do. The weight of the base/foundation must be stronger and
heavier than that of the top.
According
to Anals Nin,”Dreams are necessary to
life”. Do you have a dream at all? Do you have imaginations and targets? A
man without dream is a lifeless man. Ben Jonson says, “If his dream lasts, he'll turn the age to gold”. If the dream could
stay longer, if you would never stopped dreaming, if you will always sleep and
wake remembering what you want to become and always work hard daily to achieve
a dream, then you would one day see your dream become gold.
People will come to
believe in that dream they once despise. All you need is to keep trying.
Remember, the battle is neither unto the swift, nor the battle to the strong,
slow and steady wins the race. A dream
you don’t believe in or fight for can never be yours.
Climb
every mountain, ford every stream, and Follow every rainbow, till you find your
dream - Oscar Hammerstein II
Oscar
advises to go to any length for a dream. Climb the mountains, cross the
valleys, dig and dig deeper, until you find that dream. Let men ask you why you
are so voracious for success; tell them something is burning in you. Tell them
your dream is greater than you and you would never stop until you achieve it.
Quitters don’t win and winners don’t quit.
Go
for the moon, if you don't get it, you'll still be heading for a star - Willis Reed. Before you can head for a star, you must have
a dream that drives you like an engine. If after you fought for the best and
didn’t get it, definitely you get the better, and if not, the good, but certainly
not the bad, worse or worst.

Opportunity
BRUTUS There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.
William Shakespeare
If you had been mine when you were
seven, you would have been the crème de la crème - Muriel Spark. Opportunities meet only those that are
prepared. Always be readily equipped and prepared for everything that comes
your way. “For of all sad words
of tongue or pen,
the saddest are these: 'It might have been!” - John Greenleaf Whittier.

Your
greatest regrets in life are not the things you did wrongly, but the things you
never did. Regrets come later in life and they are the saddest
parts of the moment of a man. What pains one most in life are things he wished
he did, though the result may not be sure or significant at the moment, but
they will surely pay off.
Finally, “The bitterest tears shed over graves
are for words left unsaid and deeds left undone.” - Harriet Beecher Stowe
Do not let
your dreams become your regret, and do not allow your aspirations lie humbly
with you in the grave unachieved. It may be so big and appear unachievable, but
it can be achieved. You won’t know if it
is unachievable when you have not tried, you only know when you have tried.
It can’t kill you, it will only make you stronger, weak men are not meant for war, they remain spoils of war. Go out there
and achieve.
The bible says, “Work while it is day, for night cometh when
no man will able to work”.
