Everyone has got his
own share of life problems. They are not meant to destroy us, but to shape us,
just like Steve Jobs, popular founder of Apple, who was adopted, couldn’t even
meet his parents, was brought up by parents that were not educated, and also
had to drop out of school like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. He defied all
odds, and chose a life for himself, and didn’t allow life to choose just
anything for him. In few days, we will learn about his beginning, life journey,
joyful moments, sad moments, and his death.
Steve Jobs: A successful Drop-out
Steven Paul Jobs
was an American entrepreneur and business magnate until his death. He was also the
CEO, chairman and the co-founder of Apple
Inc along with Steve Wozniak. He was also a major shareholder of Pixar and founder of NeXT. Jobs was believed to be the
pioneer of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s along with his
partner, Wozniak.
Steve Paul Jobs was born 24
February, 1955 to Abdulfattah Jandali and Joanne Schieble. The father, Jandali
grew up in Syria and was born into an Arab Muslim household. While Job’s father
was doing his PhD at the University of Wisconsin, he met Job’s mother who was
of German descent and grew up in a farm. The
parents of Job’s mother were not impressed about the relationship and promised
to disown her if she didn’t stop the relationship with Job’s father.

Job’s mother Joanne eventually got pregnant for Jandali in
1954 and Jandali later said he was very much in love with Joanne,
unfortunately, her father was a tyrant and would not want her to have anything
to do with me as I was from Syria; therefore, Joanne decided to give up Steve Jobs
for adoption.
When Joanne’s father was on his death bed and Joanne would
not want to add to his problems, Jobs’ parent felt they were too young to marry
since Joanne was just 23 then. Giving birth outside wedlock brings a serious stigma
at this time in the US along with abortions being illegal and dangerous in
1954, the only way out was to put up Steve Jobs for adoption.
Jandali later explained that Joanne moved to San Francisco without
telling anyone including himself to have the baby. She did this to avoid shame
coming to the family and felt that was the best decision.
Mistake
is a means and not a result
On 24 February, 1955 at San Francisco, Jobs was born and a
catholic, wealthy and well-educated family was chosen for his adoption. The
couple rather adopted a girl and Steve Jobs was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs
who had no college education. Jobs mother felt reluctant and only allowed the
poor family to adopt him after they promised to send him to college. Clara, the
adopted mother of Job found it hard to love him in the first six month he was
with them as she was scared they were going to take him from them, she felt
they did a mistake adopting Jobs and wanted to return him. Years down the lane,
they got to love Jobs like his biological parents.
Though Paul and Clara jobs would always claim they are not
the real parents of Jobs, he often times feel offended at this especially when
they call them his adopted parents. Jobs would later claim that Paul and Clara
Jobs were his parents 1,000%. He rather referred to his biological parents as “my
sperm and egg bank” and nothing more since they could not be responsible for
him.
How it started
Steve Jobs sees himself as a
humanities person when he was a kid but he liked electronics. One of his
heroes, Edwin Land of Polaroid talked about the importance of people between
humanities and sciences and Steve Jobs decided that he will go for electronics.
When Jobs was 10, he deeply loved electronics and had to
make friends with so many engineers in his neighborhood. Jobs had difficulty
being friends with children of his mates and his class termed him a ‘loner’.
Destiny
Helper
Jobs
explained how he learnt through his fourth grade teacher, Imogene ‘Teddy’ Hill
who was a destiny helper. He claimed that despite his lack of interest in
school, the teacher turned his life around by bribing him to learn. Most times,
the teacher would promise Jobs five bucks if he could finish his workbook and
claimed that this triggered the passion in him to learn and claimed he learnt
at that particular year than the previous year. The school wanted Jobs to skip
the next two years in grade school and move to junior high to learn a foreign
language but his parents wisely rejected.
Do
anything not to fail
When Jobs was at the
sixth grade at Crittenden Middle School, he was often bullied and had to
threaten his parents to withdraw him from the school or he would drop out. Despite the poor conditions of the parents,
they had to use all their savings to relocate so that Jobs can change his school.
The new home was an area with a larger number of engineers in the neighborhood.
Love
what you do
In 1968 at the age of
13, Jobs was given a job by Bill Hewlett (of Hewlett-Packard) when Jobs only
called if he could take part in an electronic project. Bill Hewlett did not
even know Jobs at all but gave him a part of the job and it was fun to work at
Hewlett-Packard where he assembles frequency counters. Though assembly may be too strong, Jobs claim that it was like heaven
on earth and had so much fun doing it.

Be
Friends with Like-Minds
Jobs only had two categories of
friends: those that were into electronics and engineering and those with
interest in art and literature. The two were very important and reflected in the life of
Jobs as his best friend was Steve Wozniak and his girlfriend was Chrisann Brennan

Always believe you are not in the worst condition in the world. You would not want to see some conditions at all because you are a lot better than them. Move on from your present condition.
